Ruthven Park National Historic Site
This 1,500 acre property, nestled along the banks of the Canadian heritage Grand River, has cultural and natural landscapes which include farm fields, meadows, Carolinian forests and wetlands, a 9 acre island, two cemeteries, and remains of the former town of Indiana. An 1840’s Greek revival mansion is filled with original family furnishings and possessions and many stories which chronicle each of the five generations of the Thompson family. Other nineteenth century outbuildings also remain. In its entirety, Ruthven Park is a symbol of the industrial, commercial and agricultural development of Upper Canada during the mid nineteenth century.
